Movie Description
Following the death of his mother, a young teenager moves to a small town to live with his father's two maiden cousins. There, he learns all there is to know about life from observing the town's decidedly eccentric inhabitants. Adapted from the semi-autobiographical novel by Truman Capote.

Credits
Cast:Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek
Director:Charles Matthau

Synopsis
A film adaptation of Truman Capote's autobiographical novel.

After young Collin Fenwick's parents pass away, he goes to live with two of his father's cousins, Dolly and Verena Talbo. Dolly is the sweet one, who manages to earn her living during the Depression by selling a home remedy she helped invent. The sterner Verena, meanwhile, bosses everyone around.

Collin gradually becomes acquainted with the eccentric townspeople, from the gossip-loving barber to a woman with 15 illegitimate kids. But the boy's life only achieves clarity after Dolly teaches him about the "grass harp" -- the ability to hear the voices of deceased loved ones in the whistlings of the wind.

"...A jewel of a film....An intelligently written, well-acted and beautifully mounted adaptation of a book by a major 20th-century American author..."
Variety - Daniel M. Kimmel (09/11/1995)

"...A beguiling film in every way....THE GRASS HARP celebrates rebirth and renewal but within a tough--minded view of life that never allows it to lapse into a fairy tale..."
Los Angeles Times - Kevin Thomas (10/11/1996)
