Synopsis
Muhammad Hafiz (1320-89), a 14th-century Persian, wrote ecstatic poems in the tradition of Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam. In modern Iran, his poems are reputed to outsell the Koran. The intimate spiritualism of these poems are given a loose translation by Daniel Landinsky, who has translated several other volumes of poems by Hafiz.
