Synopsis In a country far to the east, Chulak and his talking white elephant Hamlet help Lila seek the Royal Sulphur from the sacred volcano so that she can become a master maker of fireworks like her father., Lila wants to become a firework-maker, just like her father. Thinking that it's not a job for a girl, her father tells her to focus on getting married instead. Lila disagrees, and leaves home to get royal sulfur from the Fire Fiend in order to pursue her firework-maker career. As she journeys across many lands, her task turns into an adventure--she's confronted by a band of pirates, meets wild animals, and participates in a fireworks contest. Will Lila ever reach the Fire Fiend? With black-and-white illustrations.
