Movie Description
Suggested from the Finnish play by Juhni Tervataa, this light romantic comedy is full of delights. Loretta Young portrays a lovely Swedish country girl named Katrin, complete with accent and peasant blouse, who comes to the big city and lands a gig working in Glenn Morley's (Joeseph Cotton) mansion as a second maid. Ethel Barrymore plays his iron-fisted mother, Mrs. Morley, who also lives there. The charismatic son and tough mother are the money behind a well-oiled political machine that is in the process of electing a congressman. The congressman is in the fight of his life. Katrin, naïve and frank, stirs up the house when she comes on the scene and openly voices her disapproval of their candidate by heckling him at a rally. Director H.C.Potter gets in a few deep political jabs, but for the most part the politics serve the comedy and the love story. Loretta Young brought home a much-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance.
