Synopsis
This bright, musical remake of the 1953 film features singer Betty Grable (of the million dollar legs), a score by Harold Arlen and Dorothy Fields, and innovative choreography by Jack Cole.

The story centers on a young man who leaves the farm to help build the Erie Canal. He dreams of earning enough money to buy some land of his own -- but he gets more than he expected when he falls in love with a pretty young cook. Soon he has both a wife and work. But just when things seem perfect, there's a hitch: it looks as if a new project will derail the Canal and put him out of a job...

Film Notes

Musical remake of the 1935 film "The Farmer Takes a Wife," directed by Victor Fleming, and featuring actor Henry Fonda's screen debut.
