Synopsis A story of an "insignificant" death. Late at night, the body of an unidentified young man is brought to a morgue. The next day, the newpapers relate that he was killed by the police and went by the obviously false name of 'Carlo Nobodi.' Spino, the morgue attendant, becomes obsessed with discovering the true identity of the corpse. But the question is posed: can the living ever truly find the dead? Do the dead stay in place or do they in fact move as we move?

Publisher's Notes
First Line: "To open the drawers you have to turn the handle and press down."
Industry Reviews "This book owes much to a city, to a particular cold winter and to a window. Writing it did not bring me an inordinate among of levity. All the same I observed that the older one gets the more once tends to laugh on one's own; and that seems to me a step forward toward a more composed and somehow self-sufficient sense of humor." Author Note - Antonio Tabucchi
"Albert Camus, meet Raymond Chandler." Philadelphia Inquirer - Carlin Ramano
