Industry Reviews K-Gr 3 Lucas has always dreamed of building the perfect house and the time has finally come to leave his apartment and do it. However, his site an island is small so the wood-walled bedroom must be built atop the stone-walled kitchen. The bearded, bespectacled man enjoys the project so much he stacks on several more rooms, capping the tower with a wind-chime room where walls are strung with bits of glass, smooth stones, and shells. Then Lucas and his cat want someone else to appreciate the beauty of it all. During a fierce squall, the tower is magically transformed into a bridge, bringing hoards of children to play and ending the man's loneliness. "Simply magical!" says Lucas. Gentle, luminous, nearly translucent watercolors perfectly portray the sea, the slightly eccentric builder, and the joyous ending. Fresh as a sea breeze.
