Through a close study of several major and lesser-known wars fought in North America, two distinguished historians trace the growth of America and the changes wrought by these conflicts. Each war is studied through the prism of a key general--Washington, Jackson, Grant, MacArthur, etc.--and together they reveal a pattern of imperialistic enterprise throughout American history.
