In this historical thriller, New York Times reporter John Darnton provides a unique (but entirely fictional) solution to the mystery of why Charles Darwin waited 22 years after he developed the theory of evolution to publish THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES. The novel traces three storylines: Darwin's groundbreaking expedition on The Beagle, a journal by his daughter Elizabeth written some years later, chronicling her concerns about her father's odd behavior after that expedition, and a contemporary pair of scientists also seeking the real origin of THE ORIGIN, so to speak.
