Synopsis
"The Cure" is a touching tale of an unlikely friendship between two boys: Dexter, who has AIDS, and his neighbor Erik, a transplanted Southern teen trying to adjust to life in a new place.

Despite his mother's disapproval, Erik makes friends with his ailing, younger neighbor. At first the boys communicate from over the fence, but as the bond between them develops, Erik and Dexter come into closer contact. Their tight friendship ultimately leads the two to embark on a Mark Twain-like adventure down the Mississippi River.

Industry Reviews
"...What makes us weep is not that Dexter has AIDS but that Dexter and Erik have each other....THE CURE has managed that miracle."
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum (04/21/1995)

"...Technically handled with aplomb and a pleasant lack of fussiness, the picture has a coziness that takes the drama to a disquieting grass-roots level..."
Variety - Leonard Klady (04/17/1995)

"...Exceptionally well acted....A poignant pre-adolescent buddy movie..."
New York Times - Stephen Holden (04/21/1995)

"...Well-acted....[Horton] does elicit beautifully drawn and sustained portrayals from his young actors and also from Sciorra..."
Los Angeles Times - Kevin Thomas (04/21/1995)
