Album Notes
Clannad includes: Maire Ni Bhraoniain (vocals); Ciaran O Braonain.
Clannad's distinctive folk sound is derived from the traditions of the Bhraoniain family's home county of Donegal. Vocalist Maire Ni Bhraoniain's voice is set against a rich, often haunting backdrop of traditional Irish instruments such as the flute, tin whistle, bodhran and medieval harp, usually accompanied by the folksy strumming of an acoustic guitar. The music on this CD is firmly rooted in the traditional music of Ireland, and stands in contrast to the band's RCA albums, which were essentially pop rock releases.
Highlights on THE CELTIC VOICE include the serene "Siuil A Run," the playful Brittany dance "Rince Briotanach," which features Maire Ni Bhraoniain's superb harp playing, and the somber folk ballad, "By Chance it Was." These songs emphasize Clannad's musical insight, technical acumen and overall musical credibility. Clannad's understanding of Ireland's centuries-old musical tradition is what sets them apart from their contemporaries.
