Synopsis
During the mid-12th century, an encyclopedic text by the Arabic writer Abu Bakr al-Razi, the "Sirr al-‘asrar," became influential in Western thought through a popular Latin translation entitled "Secretum secretorum" (Secret of the Secrets). Deepak Chopra's THE BOOK OF SECRETS, to be clear, is not an English translation of the "Secretum," but rather a remarkably concise and convincing argument in favor of the Buddhist concept that our being is inseparable from all existence. Using demonstrations of the body's modes of intelligence at work at the cellular level, and the daylight-sensitive interaction of hormones in a butterfly's cocoon, Chopra illustrates the ways that the energy of an organism is bound up with the energy of its environment.These processes, in turn, guide his advice on improving our lives and our world. It may be wholly coincidental that the "Secretum" also contains a singular account of a unified science; or it may be that, like its medieval namesake, THE BOOK OF SECRETS will popularize Eastern wisdom and inspire change in current Western scientific paradigms.
