Part of EMI Special Products' Ten Best series of 10-song budget compilations, BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS is a dead-on perfect collection of songs from the band's pre-PET SOUNDS era. Even considering just the 1962-66 time period between "Surfin' Safari" and "Heroes and Villains" (neither of which are included here), the Beach Boys released at least three or four times as many classic pop songs as are included here.
A computer could spit out ten '60s Beach Boys singles at random and still have a magnificent CD, and to be honest, we have no way of knowing that that's not what happened here. Nevertheless, BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS contains unquestionably wonderful, timeless music.
