Album Notes Engineers include: Tom Pick, Jim Malloy, Bill Porter.Personnel: Eddy Arnold (vocals, guitar).Recording information: Nashville Sound Studio, Nashville, TN (04/27/1959-04/15/1969).Unknown Contributor Role: Jodi Cohen.Arrangers: Bill Walker ; Cam Mullins.Between 1946 and 1992, there was no bigger hit maker in country music. Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, Merle Haggard--forget 'em all. Eddy Arnold had them all beat by a mile, charting a phenomenal 128 records during his career. THE BEST OF, VOLUME II focuses on Arnold's output during the late 1960s, a period neglected by most other "greatest hits" packages currently on record store shelves.By this point in his career, Eddy Arnold had settled comfortably into a pop-oriented "Nashville Sound" that brought him his greatest commercial successes. Strings, horns, and backing choruses figure prominently on nearly all of VOLUME II's tracks (the sole exception, 1959's "Tennessee Stud," is taken from an earlier folk album). The formula worked, as evidenced by the four number one songs featured here: "Lonely Again," "Somebody Like Me," "Turn the World Around," and "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye." Honky tonk fans, beware: these recordings will remind you more of Perry Como than Lefty Frizzell.
