Album Notes Includes liner notes by Peter Grendysa. All tracks have been digitally remastered. This release tracks the Mills Brothers' prolific 37-year recording career. The first 26 years featured a quartet comprising the four brothers, John, Jr., Herbert, Harry, and Donald. In 1936 John Jr. died and was replaced by the boys' father, John Sr., who performed until retiring in 1957, when the group became a trio. Their early sound begins distinctively with rousing, jazzy numbers like "Nobody's Sweetheart," their debut release of 1931. The furious scat vocals on this '20s pop tune are unique, sharp, and melodic. The Brothers combine forces with a young Ella Fitzgerald on "Dedicated to You," their harmonies floating behind her bell-toned vocals in a sonic miasma.
