Synopsis This in-depth study of the works created by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm puts such well-known tales as "Little Red Riding Hood," "Rapunzel," and "Snow White" in a new context by analyzing their cultural, historical, and psychological aspects. Concentrating on 40 stories written by the Grimm brothers, this collection features full translations of a number of tales rarely published in their complete forms--stories often deemed too harsh for children because they deal with such topics as cannibalism and the death of children. Also included is a biographical essay on Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Color and B&W illustrations, by such artists as George Cruikshank and Arthur Rackham, accompany the text.
