Synopsis
This biography of legendary director Alfred HItchcock chronicles his numerous contributions to the film industry throughout the 20th-century. It begins with his silent projects of the 1920s and moves on to explore his '30s Classic British Movies--including THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and THE 39 STEPS. Hitchcock's Hollywood creations of the '40s--such as VERTIGO, PSYCHO, and REBECCA--are followed by films released during his Golden Years (1951-1964)--like MARNIE and STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. The book ends with his Languishing period (1965-1980) and provides coverage of FAMILY PLOT and TORN CURTAIN. Story synopses of each film are accompanied by the authors' notes and observations. Behind-the-scenes photographs of the "Master of Suspense" at work and film stills are also included.

Publisher's Notes
First Line: "Sir Alfred Hitchcock was born on August 13, 1899, the third child of a Catholic family living in the London suburb of Leytonstone, near the Waltham Forest."

Industry Reviews
"It's not a comprehensive critique, even with separate sections devoted to various aspects of his filmmaking, including writers, other collaborators, leading ladies, unrealized projects and cameo appearances. But there's a wealth of on-screen and off-screen photos, a detailed filmography, listings of his TV and radio work and a bibliography."
Chicago Tribune - Richard Christiansen (12/05/1999)
