Movie Description
Aviation adventure and drama collide in this Oscar-nominated tale of a daring test pilot who must choose between wings and wedded bliss. With the help of his loyal mechanic (Spencer Tracy), Jim Lane (Clark Gable) has made a career scaling the greatest heights a flyer can reach. Grounded in the Midwest, Jim falls for a local girl (Myrna Loy), but marriage proves his most turbulent journey yet as his new wife has trouble adjusting to the up and downs of life with a man who risks death every time he flies.

Synopsis
Jim Lane (Clark Gable) is a test pilot who loves danger, drink, and women. Jim's aim to set a new coast-to-coast speed record is ruined when he is forced into an emergency landing by a Kansas farm housing the lovely Ann Barton (Myrna Loy). Jim and Ann hit it off at a baseball game, and after a failed attempt to say good-bye, Jim flies Ann to Indianapolis, where they wed. Ann recognizes what she has walked into only when Jim refuses to bail out of a race after his plane catches on fire. He wins the race but spends his earnings on a five-day drunken spree. Ann decides to leave him, but he begs her to stay. A series of narrow escapes follow, but tragedy lies in wait. The flying stunts in this romantic comedy are superb, as is the timing of Ms. Loy, the macho appeal of Gable, and the supporting performances from Tracy and Lionel Barrymore.

Film Notes
A few years after filming, Clark Gable became a real-life flying ace who would be decorated for a dangerous mission flown over Germany in World War II.
