Movie Description
TELL NO ONE starts off innocently enough: sunlight streams through the trees at a gorgeous summer home as an Otis Redding song plays. But the ominous title is apt: the events in this French thriller based a Harlan Coben novel soon turn dark. Happily married couple Alex (François Cluzet) and Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) go for a swim, but their idyllic evening is interrupted by a brutal attack. Alex is knocked unconscious, and his wife is murdered. Almost a decade later, that night still haunts Alex. He receives an email pointing him to a link to a live webcam, where he sees a woman who looks remarkably like his dead wife turn and stare into the camera. Hope and confusion mount, but a discovery at the crime scene causes Alex to become the prime suspect in his wife's death, a murder that was thought to have been solved years ago.

When TELL NO ONE played in its native France, it picked up four César awards, the country's equivalent of the Oscar, and it's easy to see why. Director Guillame Canet (who also plays a small role in the film) has crafted a taut, well-told film. TELL NO ONE's narrative journey is filled with numerous twists and turns, but the audience is content to be along for the ride with Canet at the wheel. There are elements of Hitchcock and THE FUGITIVE, but the film never feels like a rip-off of the classics. It's a gripping, entertaining tale that features solid performances, especially from Canet (L'ENFER) and Kristin Scott Thomas in a supporting role.

Industry Reviews
3 stars out of 5 -- "Chopping back and forth in time, it's dynamically shot....Canet has rounded up a real 'Who's Who' of French acting talent..."
Total Film - Tom Dawson (07/01/2007)

4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his sees Guillaume Canet going for broke, piling twist upon twist....It's bursting with ideas..."
Uncut - Chris Roberts (11/01/2007)

4 stars out of 5 -- "At the heart of Guillaume Canet's film -- in every sense -- is Francois Cluzet's award-winning performance..."
Empire - Rob Fraser (11/01/2007)

"Based on a Harlan Coben novel, this top-notch thriller from France is so twisty you may forget to breathe....It's as much a despairing love story as an edge-of-your-seat affair."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (07/03/2008)

"TELL NO ONE is about an innocent man on the run with nowhere to turn....[Mr. Cluzet] is a convincing Everyman with a heat and soul stretched to the breaking point."
New York Times - Stephen Holden (07/02/2008)

"It's THE BIG SLEEP meets VERTIGO with a dash of CSI....TELL NO ONE's plot thickens in about five ways at once, but they're all connected." -- Grade: A-
Entertainment Weekly - Owen Gleiberman (07/18/2008)

"TELL NO ONE is engaging in a tension-mounting, tightly wound kind of way....The cast here is uniformly superb, especially Kristin Scott Thomas..."
Premiere - Priya Jain (06/25/2008)

Included in Entertainment Weekly's 2008 Films Of The Year -- "[A]s artfully dense as THE BIG SLEEP, as painfully romantic as VERTIGO..."
Entertainment Weekly - Owen Gleiberman (12/26/2008)

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "It contains a rich population of characters, but has been so carefully cast that we're never confused....One of the film's pleasures is its unexpected details..."
Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (07/10/2009)
