Synopsis
Judy Sierra retells a traditional Japanese folk tale about a young girl named Uriko-hime (or "melon princess" because her parents found her inside of a watermelon!) who undertakes a very important journey. She's got to find the ogres who kidnapped all of the babies in town, because the ogres love to snack on babies' belly buttons! Armed with a stash of yummy dumplings, a sword, and her dog, she begins her long journey. She meets a pheasant and monkey who offer her their assistance. Will they be able to find the ogres before they eat all the belly buttons? With bold color illustrations throughout., Urikohime, a girl born from a melon, battles the monstrous oni, who steal babies to eat their tasty belly buttons.
