Movie Description
For the 2000 SEEN BY... series, in which six directors filmed their vision of the night of December 31, 1999, Hungarian director Ildiko Enyedi offers this tragic love story. Set in a Hungarian coal mining town, Tamás is a shy young miner who falls for Juli, but finds it hard to express his feelings for her. They plan to spend New Year's Eve together, but those plans are thwarted when Tamás is assigned to work that night. Juli, however, takes it upon herself to go to the mine on New Year's Eve to celebrate with Tamás. Shot against the contrasting backdrops of a noisy, dirty, and dangerous coal mine and the eerily peaceful snow covered countryside, TAMÁS AND JULI is a beautiful tragedy.
