Album Notes 2 LPs on 1 CD. Bauhaus: Peter Murphy (vocals); Daniel Ash (guitar); David J. (bass); Kevin Haskins (drums). Producers: Mike Hawkes, Dale Griffin, John Williams, John Sparrow. Engineers: Mike Robinson, Martin Parker, Martin Colley. Several radio shows in England feature artists performing "live" in the studio. Two of the most famous programs are the John Peel Show and the Dave Jenson Show. The DJs select artists and invite them into the studio to record several songs for broadcast. Bauhaus appeared on both the Peel and Jenson shows several times, and SWING THE HEARTACHE: THE BBC SESSIONS complies five of those sessions on one disc. Arranged in chronological order, the tracks include a number of songs that would subsequently turn up, in re-recorded versions, on albums or singles, a handful of cover versions, and an otherwise unreleased cut. Peter Murphy's acrobatic vocals define "A God In An Alcove" and "The Spy In The Cab," both from IN THE FLAT FIELD. Daniel Ash's haunted guitar playing is especially incendiary in HEARTACHE's live take on BURNING FROM THE INSIDE's "She's In Parties." Among the covers are versions of Brian Eno's "Third Uncle" and David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." The unreleased track is "Poison Pen," a rhythm section workout with muted, frenetic drums. Also included is "Departure," a companion piece to MASK's "Of Lillies And Remains" later also appended to the CD version of BURNING.
