Synopsis
The Parmenters raise hunting dogs on Sweetwater Farm in South Carolina's low country, near Charleston, where 12-year-old Emily leads a lonely life. Her mother has left the family, her favorite brother killed himself, and Emily buries her grief by becoming absorbed in the comforting world of the puppies she trains. Then a 20-ish young woman named Lulu arrives, sent by her family to spend the summer and learn to work with the dogs, and Lulu and Emily strike up an unlikely but very satisfying friendship.
