Synopsis This corporate history traces the story of the makers of the sugar substitute Sweet’N Low, and is written by a family member. Rich Cohen traces the family’s Polish immigrant roots in Brooklyn , New York, where his grandfather Ben Eisenstadt was a lawyer, restaurateur (he owned a diner), and tea packager who had the idea to put sugar, and later the artificial sweetener saccharin, into individualized packets, making the family rich. Cohen’s colorful tale includes organized crime, eccentric family members, a nasty power struggle, and the disinheritance of his side of the family. Cohen recreates a time and place when immigrants could dare to dream dreams that would come true. A New York Times Notable Book of the Year for 2006.
