Alek Neuman is an angry Jewish immigrant in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn passing his days as a dishwasher. He spends his nights nursing his bitterness with booze.
At one time, Neuman might have been a top prizefighter. But the power brokers in his native, and fiercely atheistic, Russia kept him out of the ring because of his faith.
Then Neuman meets two street kids who may have what it takes to make it as boxers, and he offers to coach them.
