Synopsis Kate Melvil and her uncle George (who is actually two years younger than Kate) are new students at the exclusive Whittaker Magnet School--a school that boasts the highest test scores in the nation. Life at the school is very strange--classes are taught in a windowless basement and the focus is solely on how to improve standardized testing scores. Additionally, the students are forced to drink strange tasting protein shakes, and the only physical fitness regime they engage in is working out on treadmills. To make matters worse, the school itself seems to be haunted by a demon with murder on its mind. Will George and Kate be able to uncover the dark secret hidden within the bland walls of Whittaker Magnet?, When fourteen-year-old Kate and her twelve-year-old genius-uncle George are transferred to a magnet school for the gifted, they quickly discover that everything is amiss and danger lurks in unexpected places.
