Album Notes One of the pioneers of Southwestern R&B, the drummer and bandleader Roy Milton was instrumental in the late 1940s initial popularity of the Specialty record label, with his band the Solid Senders and early hits like "Milton's Boogie " and "R.M. Blues." Featuring singer and pianist Camille Howard and vocalists Lil Greenwood, Freddy Clark, and Mickey Champion, this collection includes Milton's versions of "The Hucklebuck" and Louis Prima's "Oh Babe!" as well as early-'50s favorites like his "Porter's Love Song (To a Chambermaid)" and "It's Later Than You Think." Though the band's record sales nosedived after the onset of rock & roll, Milton continued performing live until well into the 1970s.
Industry Reviews With his hard-riffing Southern California band and pronounced backbeat, Milton was one of the major architects of rhythm and blues.
