Album Notes Infamous Mobb: Ty Nitty, Gambino, Godfather. Additional personnel includes: Mobb Deep, Tragedy Khadafi, Big Rapper Noyd, Hostyle, Chinky. Producers include: The Alchemist, DJ Muggs, Havoc. This trio of Mobb Deep-affiliated rappers (with the Cosa Nostra-inspired monikers Godfather, Ty Nitty, and Gambino) here trade heavily on the name of their more famous counterparts. Whether they should be nervously looking over their shoulders or not, their debut SPECIAL EDITION contains enough moments of thug-related mayhem to rouse the curiosity of fans of the Mobb Deep collective. For instance, there's the brooding menace of "Mobb Niggaz (The Sequel)," and the sense that time (and the law) may be catching up with the narrator of "B.I.G.-T.W.I.N.S." But the Infamous Mobb don't stray far from their roots--for instance, "Back in the Days" name-checks an old school rapper Kurtis Blow and an old school street sport--double Dutch rope-jumping (as well as the first time the protagonist was arrested--ah, the memories!)--to provide a little contrast to the unrelenting thuggery. While the Infamous Mobb won't give their namesakes much of a run for their money, SPECIAL EDITION retains enough interest to lift it above the mere run-of-the-mill.
