Matt Nathanson occupies that grassy, unevenly mown field between indie and stadium rock, delivering intelligent and anthemic guitar-driven pop with a shrugging, just-folks attitude. The jittery, glittering songs share both the earnestness and the fireworks of bands like U2, and the quieter ballads (played often on a 12-string acoustic guitar) chime like prime Elliott Smith. This sixth full-length by the San Francisco-based artist was his best-selling one to date, appearing on the Billboard Top 200 in 2007.
