Synopsis Originally published in issues #51 to #62 of the DARK HORSE PRESENTS comic book series, this noir graphic novel (later retitled SIN CITY: THE HARD GOODBYE) was the first of several utilizing the same setting, the corrupt, profoundly violent landscape of Basin City--or, as its inhabitants (who know better) refer to it, "Sin City." Marv is a battered, hulking thug with a hideous face. That's why he's so surprised and so grateful when the beautiful Goldie comes home with him and spends the night. And that's why he's so murderously angry when he wakes up next to her corpse. Framed for her death, pursued by the cops, Marv wades through an ever-higher pile of bodies on his way to discovering the true killer and making him pay for his crime in blood and pain. The black-and-white silhouette-like art is as stark and harsh (and as beautiful) as the text. SIN CITY won both the Eisner Award and National Cartoonist Award. The 2005 film SIN CITY, starring Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke, is an extremely faithful adaptation of both the words and the art of this graphic novel and two later titles in the series, SIN CITY: THE BIG FAT KILL and SIN CITY: THAT YELLOW BASTARD.

Industry Reviews "SIN CITY is what happens when an artist like Miller...goes off the reservation, without the constraints that come with writing stories with an established hero like Batman or Daredevil. The artwork is bold, harshly monochromatic, thrillingly violent....[SIN CITY: THE HARD GOODBYE is] pitch-black funny and strangely touching....[P]ractically unforgettable. These pages leave scars, baby." Kirkus online - Chris Barsanti (03/31/2005)
