Album Notes Witty, sophisticated, and sexy are all words that have been used to describe HBO's smash SEX AND THE CITY series. Those same adjectives can also be applied to the soundtrack from this series. This dance-heavy compilation of music is predictably laced with truckloads of sexual innuendo while featuring a variety of genres. Included in this range are Trisha Yearwood's lush countrypolitan balladry ("For Only You"), Reiss easing into some slinky Caribbean flavored chest thumping ("Got the Girl") and Tom Jones and Mousse-T's tasty Hi-NRG Europop ("Sexbomb"). Other highlights included Aimee Mann's shimmering kiss-off "Calling it Quits," Bette Midler pouring herself into an achingly soulful cover of Teddy Pendergrass' "Love TKO," and Joan Osborne belting out "Righteous Love," a songwriting collaboration with troubadour Joseph Arthur. Among the other aural bons mots are The Dust Brothers' jittery cover of the Andrea True Connection disco classic "More, More, More," and the sensual ambiance of Groove Armada's "Sex and the City Theme."
Industry Reviews ...Like the shows Mr.Wrongs, the CD's charms are fast and fleeting. Sure, there's saucy stuff - Missy Elliot's 'Hot Boyz' for example...but ask yourself, am I up for an anticlimatic fling? - Rating: B- Entertainment Weekly (06/16/2000)
4 stars out of 5 - [T]here's a fine blend of 21st-century pop and old-school soul.
