Album Notes Brother Cane: Damon Johnson (vocals, guitar, Hammond organ); David Anderson (acoustic & electric guitars, background vocals); Roman Glick (harmonica, bass, background vocals); Scott Collier (drums). Additional personnel: Joey Huffman (piano, organ); Steve Ramos (congas, percussion). Principally recorded at Triclops Sound Studio, Atlanta, Georgia. SEEDS is the sophomore release by Brother Cane, a hard-driving alterna-rock quartet whose eponymous debut garnered raves in 1993. Since that time, Brother Cane has undergone some jarring personnel changes and re-emerged with a strong collection of tracks that are intricately vibrant in both construction and performance. Propelled by Damon Johnson's gritty, tuneful vocals and expert lead-guitar work, Brother Cane comes across as a mixture of Soundgarden (songs) and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (energy). Not a bad combination. The material on SEEDS is a rough 'n' tumble excursion into angst, dread, excitement and self-effacement. The rhythm section of former guitarist/current bassist Roman Glick and drummer Scott Collier propel tunes like the explosive "Hung On A Rope" to surprising heights; and once-and-future guitarist David Anderson's melodic licks consistently cook up fresh dynamics within each song. SEEDS is proof that the changes endured by Brother Cane have truly enhanced the band.
