Album Notes Includes the SAY WHAT YOU WILL...ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN EP. Soul Asylum: Dave Pirner (vocals, guitar, saxophone); Dan Murphy (vocals, guitar); Karl Mueller (bass); Pat Morley (drums). SAY WHAT YOU WILL, CLARENCE...KARL SOLD THE TRUCK is a reissue of Soul Asylum's 1984 debut EP, SAY WHAT YOU WILLàEVERYTHING CAN HAPPEN, with the addition of five tracks from that record's recording sessions (all of which appeared previously on the cassette-only, TIME'S INCINERATOR). It also trades the original version of "Black and Blue" for a rawer version recorded at the band's first session. While this album not the best bet for fans of the band's later material, this is an essential document of Soul Asylum's development. Most of the songs on this collection are loud high-speed rockers or punk numbers that feature sparsely worded choruses and fast, sloppy playing. "Money Talks" and "Stranger" are two exceptions. The former is a rolling folk/rock hybrid, while the latter is a Dave Pirner country experiment that boasts a saxophone solo. As might be expected, the version of "Black and Blue" is exactly the sort of straight-ahead, take-no-prisoners punk that one would expect from a band formerly known as Loud Fast Rules.
