Album Notes Originally released as a 2 LP set. The CD reissue of a compilation originally released as a double album, the euphoniously named SASSY BASSEY is a fine introduction to the work of the underrated singer. The 15-track selection starts with the mighty "Goldfinger." Torchy ballads, like Bassey's voluptuous reading of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "The Look of Love," and Ewan MacColl's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" go well with flashy show tunes like "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "People." If Ethel Merman were subtle and Barbra Streisand modest, they might sound a bit like Shirley Bassey. Excellent stuff for all middle of the road pop fans.
