Album Notes RUBY BLUE is a 2005 album by Roisin Murphy who is the singer for the electronica outfit Moloko. Personnel: Matthew Herbert (guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, keyboards, synthesizer, guitar synthesizer, keyboard bass, electric bass); Geoff Smith (dulcimer, drums); Pete Wraight (flute, trumpet, flugelhorn); Dave O'Higgins (saxophone, tenor saxophone); Trevor Mires (trombone); Phil Parnell (piano, Fender Rhodes piano); Max De Wardener (acoustic bass); Max De Wardner (bass guitar). RUBY BLUE is the debut solo release from Roisin Murphy, the singer from the electronic dance-pop act Moloko. Yet Murphy doesn't stick to Moloko's uptempo, acid house-inspired club jams here. Instead, RUBY BLUE flirts with trip-hop, jazz, and quirky singer-songwriter pop. Though more sedate, Murphy is no less experimental on RUBY BLUE. If anything, she stretches her stylistic wings to create a hypnotic, varied, and ultimately enjoyable first release.
Industry Reviews [S]he teams up with DJ-producer Matthew Herbert, whose mix of elegant horns and frisky beats constructed from handclaps, ringing alarm clocks, and other found sounds creates a thrilling backdrop for Murphy's earthy vocals.
