Movie Description The eighty-member Riverdance Irish dance troupe performs their famed stage show featuring a modern, percussive approach to traditional Celtic dance. Special guests include Anuna, flamenco specialist Maria Pages and Moscow's Moiseyev Dance Company.
Synopsis This 80-member precision dance ensemble creates a wildly energetic spectacle on an unparalleled scale. Set to Irish music, the fancy footwork of the Celtic dance numbers doubles as a thundering percussive instrument. In addition, this eclectic show features a gospel song, displays of flamenco by Maria Pagés, and classical and folk pieces by Russia's Moiseyev Dance Company.
Film Notes A presentation of VCI Entertainment and Tyrone Productions.
Filmed in Ireland, featuring the original Dublin production.
The dance numbers include: "Reel Around the Sun" "The Heart's Cry" "The Countess Cathleen" "Caoineadh Cú Chulainn" "Distant Thunder" "Firedance" "Riverdance" "Lift the Wings" "Freedom" "The Russian Dervish" "Heartland" "Riverdance International"
This dance premiered as a 10-minute segment of the interval entertainment at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.
This was the best-selling music video in the United Kingdom at the time of its release.
A companion to the video is the soundtrack "Riverdance Music From the Show," distributed by Celtic Heartbeat/Atlantic Records.
Additional cast: The James Bignon Deliverance Ensemble.
The show will tour the United States from October '96 to March '97.
Industry Reviews "...[Viewers] won't be able to resist stomping along with the staggering mass syncopation..." -- Rating: B Daly
