Album Notes The Slits: Ari Up (vocals); Chris Constanitou (guitar); Tessa Pollitt (bass instrument); Marco Pirroni (drums). This three-song EP marks the first time in 25 years that Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt played together (sans founding member and guitarist Viv Albertine) as the Slits, and though it's a welcome return, it's also a bit of a departure. The experimental dub reggae that the Slits--and the solo Ari Up--loved to muck about with is replaced here with a more strident and aggressive sound, and the band for this recording comprises, in addition to the two original Slits, ex-Sex Pistol Paul Cook and former Banshee Marco Pirroni, making it more of a '77 punk super-group than a Slits reunion. Still, the raw moxie and enthusiasm here are a heartening reminder of the pure, unschooled fervor of the original line-up.
Industry Reviews [A] sharp shock of an EP that echoes their dubby, bass-heavy origins. -- Grade: A-
