Album Notes REV includes Perry Farrel's greatest hits in Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros, and two new songs. Personnel includes: Perry Farrell (vocals); Tom Morello, John Frusciante (guitar); Karl Leiker (bass); Stephen Perkins (drums); Brendan Hawkins (percussion). Producers include: Perry Farrell, Dave Jerden, Matt Hyde, Ralph Sall, John King. Engineers include: Rob Seifert, Thomas Johnson, Matt Hyde. Although Nirvana is often credited with having brought alternative rock kicking and screaming into the mainstream, Perry Farrell got the ball rolling with Jane's Addiction and the phenomenon known as Lollapalooza. REV sums up the various projects in which the godfather of the alternative rock revolution has dabbled. The Jane's Addiction material includes radio hits like the ballad "Jane Says" and the skatepunk anthem "Stop," along with a special remix of the infectious "Been Caught Stealing." Farrell's next project, Porno For Pyros, found him indulging in more esoteric tendencies. Although the loopy "Pets" became P.F.P.'s best-known song, more adventurous material ("Tahitian Moon," "100 Ways") merits investigation thanks to a mix of fuzz guitar, clarion horns, and unorthodox rhythms. Capping off this retrospective is a pair of new tracks, a radically reworked drum-and-bass interpretation of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and the late-period Hendrix-inspired jam that is the title track, featuring Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello and Chili Pepper John Frusciante. Covers by Lou Reed ("Satellite of Love") and the Grateful Dead ("Ripple") round out this set.
