Album Notes
Although her career has been overshadowed by her 1965 hit single "Rescue Me," R&B/soul singer Fontella Bass has much more to offer than that passionate classic, as revealed on this well-selected 16-track collection. In addition to four duets with Bobby McClure (most notably the lively "Don't Mess Up a Good Thing"), RESCUED features other excellent Bass songs, including the wistful "You'll Never Know" and the celebratory "Recovery," all of which showcase her powerhouse vocals. While comparisons between Bass and Aretha Franklin are inevitable (and not unfounded), this compilation proves that the St. Louis-born singer is a compelling performer in her own right, and deserving of much wider recognition.
