Synopsis Patsy grows up with a loving father but a suicidal mother. After her mother's death, she is sent to live with her grandfather and then, during World War II, to an aunt's place in the country. When she becomes pregnant, her angry aunt packs her off to London again, where Patsy discovers she has the gift of clairvoyance--and where she is also brutalized, taken advantage of, and occasionally taken care of by a variety of characters, culminating in a long stay in a mental hospital. By the time she is an old woman, Patsy--now called Winnie--has nothing to call her own but a box of junk that represents the events of her life. And then even that is stolen....

Industry Reviews "Trezza Azzopardi describes--indeed, inhabits--her protagonist with extraordinary empathy, but cleverly tells this piteous tale without sentiment. Lillian is wretched, hateful, savage, broken-hearted, and Azzopardi's healthy disregard for the reader's approval makes the book a harrowing but impressive read....Azzopardi has a captivating narrative technique which prevents the reader from giving up in despair in the face of such a relentless catalogue of misery." Literary Review - Olivia Glazebrook (03/01/2004)
"The story, with its horrific yet plausible denouement, is gripping but it is the narrator's personality that lingers in the mind....Trezza Azzopardi's final achievement is to show how little we know about what goes on inside the minds of people who cannot share their thoughts with the world." Times Literary Supplement - Sarah Curtis (02/27/2004)
"Throughout REMEMBER ME, Azzopardi maintains a curious and delicate balance between the harshness of Lillian's half-perceived life and the faint shimmers of hope that wash through it. This is a novel to be remembered." New York Times Book Review - Catherine Lockerbie (04/11/2004)
