Album Notes A CD reissue of an early '80s vinyl album, REGGAE GREATS is a brief but satisfying overview of Steel Pulse's early career. Covering only the band's '70s and early '80s releases on Island Records, REGGAE GREATS' 10 songs are a handy precis of Third World's golden age. All the very best tracks are here, from the Gamble and Huff-inspired "Now That We've Found Love" to the booming roots reggae of the classic "Jah Glory," one of the finest Rasta devotionals of the '70s. Other gems like the UK breakthrough hit "96 Degrees in the Shade" and the moving "African Woman" are also included. The remastering isn't perfect, but it restores a lot of the bass response the original vinyl version lacked. The two-disc REGGAE AMBASSADORS is more thorough, but if you're looking for a handy single-disc introduction, this is the one.
