Synopsis An injured goose rescued by Babushka, having broken the painted eggs intended for the Easter Festival in Moscva, lays thirteen marvelously colored eggs to replace them, then leaves behind one final miracle in egg form before returning to her own kind., In this story set in pre-revolutionary Russia, Babushka is an elderly woman who is well-known for her beautiful hand-painted Easter eggs. Shortly before the Easter holiday, Babushka finds an injured goose which she names Rechenka and lovingly nurses back to health. Unfortunately, once she has recovered, Rechenka accidentally destroys the eggs that Babushka had planned to bring to the Moscow Easter Festival. Can Rechenka find a way to help Babushka prepare for the Festival? Color illustrations accompany the text.
