It isn't easy to find a common thread uniting the ten tracks on PURE GOLD, except for the fact that all are popular and excellent Elvis recordings. One might imagine that the album simply represents some RCA executive's ten favorite Presley recordings, since the selections here neither share a common thematic link nor represent a particular era of the King's career. Six of the songs on PURE GOLD, which was first released in 1975, are drawn from the King's glorious '50s recordings, and all should be familiar to popular music fans: they include "Jailhouse Rock," "Don't Be Cruel," and "Love Me Tender." Among the other tracks are two late '60s hits, "In The Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain," and a favorite at Elvis' many '70s concerts, "It's Impossible."
