Movie Description Kirk Douglas directs and stars as U.S. Marshal Howard Nightingale, a lawman with political aspirations who heads out to capture notorious bandit Jack Strawhorn (Bruce Dern) in hopes of garnering good press. The tables turn when Strawhorn takes Nightingale hostage and the Marshal's posse resorts to criminal acts to get the ransom money for his release. Released on the heels of the Watergate scandal, the film's commentary on political corruption was extremely resonant to 1970s audiences.
Synopsis Marshal Howard Nightingale wants to become the Senator from Texas, and he won't let anything stop him from getting to Capitol Hill -- especially a murderous outlaw. In fact, escaped killer Jack Strawhorn may represent a winning ticket for Nightingale, as the marshal and his posse of loyal deputies chase the fugitive through woods and prairies, making newspaper headlines every step of the way.
But man's loyalty is easily swayed... and Marshal Nightingale is going to find this out the hard way.
