Industry Reviews Gr 2-3 This attempt at a lighthearted fantasy adventure never gets off the ground. Two friends, Pork (a pig) and Beef (a cow), decide to fly to the moon. They cover themselves in frosting and roll around in feathers and are then able to fly. They are befriended by a flock of birds and eventually make it to the moon and back. The outlandish incidents and fanciful elements are more silly than funny. The theme of friendship is expressed without subtlety. Exclamation points are heavily used in an attempt to enliven a pedestrian text ("And here!...I brought this little tin of sardines along! It would make me the happiest cow in the world if you shared it with us!") Bright, colorful, cartoon illustrations cannot redeem the awkward text and poor characterization. Too difficult for an easy reader, too short for a chapter book, this title does not seem to fit anywhere. Lisa Smith, Lindenhurst Memorial Library, NY Lopate
