Album Notes Includes liner notes by Monica Tovar. Gal Costa began her career as queen of the avant-garde psychedelic Tropicalia movement in the late '60s. Eventually adjusting to both political and commercial realities, the liquid-voiced singer gradually emerged (with Maria Bethania and Elis Regina) as one of the premier artists of the far more mainstream Musica Popular Brasileira during the so-called "golden age" of the late '70s and early '80s. The well-programmed PERSONALIDADE documents this middle phase of Costa's career at the height of her pop fame. Starting with the English-lyric "London, London," (ironically, written during Caetano Veloso's exile in England), it includes a remake of her first hit, the Veloso-penned "Baby," as well as the lush "Azul" and an exuberant "Canta Brazil" as only the brilliantly exuberant Gal can sing it.
