This PERSONALIDADE (Best of Brazil) collection from the great Brazilian songwriter Chico Buarque doesn't disappoint in the consistently high quality of its songcraft. A literary figure in his own right in his native country, Buarque inherited the mantle of resident musician-intellectual from Vinicius De Moraes, the original bossa nova lyricist. In contrast to Vinicius, however, he is an accomplished musician as well as a compelling singer with an addictively dissonant style, something like a Brazilian Jacques Brel.
