From the chunky wah-wah guitars of the opener "Lo Hare Por Ti" to the Smash Mouth-meets-Blonide groove of the frenetic "Sin Aire," and the anthemic, Alanis-like attack of "Yo No Soy Esa Mujer," its clear that Paulina Rubio had got a wide variety of pop tricks up her sleeve. Her recording career began in the early 1990s, and Rubio has lasted long enough to know that a monochromatic aesthetic will eventually work against you in the mercurial world of pop. The fact that she assimilates so many influences within the context of Latin music adds an even more intriguing element to PAULINA. And whatever the sonic framework, Rubio's big, passionate, diva-material voice makes every song on this disc sound like an event.
