Publisher's Notes
First Line: "My first distinct memory is of traffic. I was being pushed in a pram through the town to the park on a sunny day, and I must have encountered the bustle of Grantham on the way."

Industry Reviews
"'The Path to Power,' for all its flatness, can be seen as the first act of a tragedy. The path seemed so smooth, so brightly lighted with the lamps of conviction, so simple and direct. The power it led to was immense, and it changed Britain, whether or not for the better. The role of a strong leader, which Margaret Thatcher played with such energy, made her immensely popular all over the world, particularly in Russia. But here in Britain we don't feel altogether comfortable with strong leaders. After all, we got rid of Churchill as soon as he had won the war. Margaret Thatcher became too easy to imitate, too easy to mock, too strident for our tastes. She appealed to the sort of old English gentlemen who had tender memories of the nanny who smacked them and locked them in the cupboards, but finally even Conservative M.P.'s came to believe she was an electoral liability."
New York Times Book Review - John Mortimer (07/09/1995)

"...Thatcher remains a fascinating political personality and a source of nostalgia for many who find today's political leaders woefully lacking her resolute qualities. This latest memoir is not the final word on her formative years as a woman and a politician, but it is an extremely valuable contribution."
Chicago Tribune - Ray Moseley (07/09/1995)

"The four chapters on today's issues are provacative...but are not the reason for buying the book. That lies in the first 300 pages--in the development of a political viewpoint and personal confidence that enabled Thatcher to come from nowhere to win the leadership of the Conservative Party in 1975. It is a tale that is gripping, sometimes surprising...and quite often distinctly moving."
Washington Post Book World - Michael Elliott (07/23/1995)

"'The Downing Street Years', the first volume of her memoirs, covered her time in power. This one is more interesting and better fun, a formidable leader looking back on her early winning battles."
Time - Martha Duffy (07/10/1995)
