The PARTY MIX EP was originally released in 1981. MESOPOTAMIA was originally released in 1982, and is available separately on cassette. This CD combines two six-song albums originally released in 1981 and 1982. PARTY MIX sees a pleasing selection of some of the B-52s' finer dance tracks remixed for home and club consumption. From the infectious "Party Out of Bounds" through the bouncy "52 Girls"-by way of "Private Idaho," "Give Me Back My Man," "Lava," and the catchy "Dance this Mess Around"-PARTY MIX's alternate takes are a welcome addition to any B-52s collection. Far more serious in intent, 1982's MESOPOTAMIA project finds Talking Heads leader David Byrne at the helm of the B-52s. MESOPOTAMIA is actually an interesting experiment, lacking the trademark humor of earlier releases while featuring a more electronic new-wave sound. The project aligns the B-52s with some of the other female-vocal-fronted bands of the time and is worth a listen.
